Police said the fire started in the paint shop and high winds quickly spread the fire through the building.
Firefighters at the scene warned of toxic smoke from the fire and local residents were told to keep doors and windows closed.
Our dramatic pictures show crews from Northumberland Fire & Rescue Service working to bring the fire under control.
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service divisional officer Andy Clough said: "We were called to the scene at around 4.30pm and initially sent three fire engines. We then made that up to six fire engines and called in aerial appliances from Tyne and Wear. It was a very rapid fire within the paint spray area and a lot of the roof collapsed. For safety reasons we weren't able to enter the building so we have just been pouring water from the outside."
